GEO.POWER ESTONIA – GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

The GEO.POWER project (under INTERREG IVC) will assess the geothermal potential in the 9 participating regions and address technical, financial and marketing aspects of ground coupled heat pumps to be included within the regional operational programmes. The project allows a better understanding of GCHP benefits and their contribution towards EU targets in relation to Kyoto protocol and the buildings performance directive.

Main objectives and expected results (for more also visit official international website at www.geopower-i4c.eu)

  • Review of best practice all over Europe to find similarities to be transferred in each reginal context.
  • Assessment of the territorial framework to evaluate the best practice reproducibility in each recepient region.
  • Development of legislative, technical, economic and marketing initiatives; elaboration of one action plan for each involved region.

GEO.POWER under INTERREG IVC

INTERREG IVC provides funding for interregional cooperation across Europe. It is implemented under the European Community’s territorial co-operation objective and financed through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The Operational Programme was approved in September 2007 and the period for INTERREG IVC will last from 2007-2013.

The overall objective of the INTERREG IVC Programme is to improve the effectiveness of regional policies and instruments. A project builds on the exchange of experiences among partners who are ideally responsible for the development of their local and regional policies.
The areas of support are innovation and the knowledge economy, environment and risk prevention. Thus, the programme aims to contribute to the economic modernisation and competitiveness of Europe. INTERREG IVC is linked to the objectives of Lisbon and Gothenburg agendas.
